Brain Walk Calculator
Walking is one of the simplest things you can do for your brain, but how you walk matters. Inspired by the Erickson et al. (2011) study, which linked regular aerobic exercise to a larger hippocampus, the part of the brain involved in memory, the Brain Walk Calculator takes the guesswork out of it.
Set your age with the slider and it works out your personal heart rate zones straight away, including the moderate “brain zone” to aim for. If you don’t have a heart rate monitor, a simple talk test gives you the same guidance.
From there, the calculator builds a 40-minute walk around your numbers: a gentle warm-up, a 30-minute working phase with a target pace and incline, and a cool-down. If you’re new to exercise or already active, the starter plan shows you how to build up to the full session over a few weeks, so you can begin at a level that suits you and progress safely. Just pick your age, follow the plan, and start walking.
